Serving Soul!

DJ Johnny Rebel

The greatest live performances you have seen?

I have witnessed so many fantastic shows, so I'll run off a few that will stay in my memory forever.

I'll get the ball rolling soul people with...

1. James Brown @Ocean in Hackney, London.

2. Roy Ayers @Jazz Cafe, London.

3. KRS One @The Hackney Empire, London.

4. Bilal @The Jazz Cafe, London.

5. Raphael Saadiq @The Jazz Cafe, London.

6. D'Angelo @Brixton Academy, London.

7. De La Soul @The Forum, London.

8. Little Brother & Darien Brockington @The Jazz Cafe, London.

9. Tortured Soul @ Cargo's, London.

10. Erykah Badu @Brixton Academy, London.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Stevie Wonder for the first time in September @The 02, London. Has any of the Soul Commune family witnessed the great man live in the flesh?

Erykah + Jill = Hot

I'm not sure if Monica or Saul have performed in th U.K. I'd love to see them in concert.

I almost forgot...I saw Roxanne Shante along with the JUICE CREW in ATL this year. Lucked up on it. It was a Dope show.

OH! And Anthony David at the BUZZ BAR in Detroit.

Raheem Devaughn last summer. GREATEST SHOW EVER! He opened for Common and I hate to say it...but Raheem's energy...his show...should have been the the opening act ( sing it with me now in true 3000 adn Paula Patton fashion: "THE HEADLINER").

Saw Miss Purple St. James (Yahzarah) rock it on a table at a bar last year too. Never lost her pitch or breath. Impressive.

Yes, Rah is a show stealer indeed. Got to give it up for my hometown boy!

I'll have some video from his show two weeks ago up on my Youtube in the next few days or so. It was one hot show with him and Chrisette...and Dwele.

Daaaammn...Rick, Cameo, Anita, Prince. Speechless!!!

A Tribe Called Quest - I'm gutted, my favorite hip-hop group ever and I kept missing out.

Musiq Soulchild - Let me know tone, is he really any good live? Over here in the U.K. my peoples are not impressed.

The Fugees were superb when I saw them back in the day with their support act Jay-Z, Wyclef impressed me the most which I wasn't expecting, as we was all pining for L at the time!!!

Re: Musiq...welllll....he's ok. He opened for Jill Scott at her Philly show and I've seen him another time or two. Admittedly, not the most exciting performer...much like Dwele. But he sounds good.

I think the best thing about his performances are that his songs are catchy and his early albums likely take you back to a certain period in your life. So you're listening and bobbing your head, reminiscing and just taking his performances for what they are.

I never really enjoy Musiq's live show. he's very much a studio artist in my opinion.

I think Musiq by himself might be tough to really wow an audience. Floetry was on first and they are remarkable so the vibe was real nice. He wasn't bad. I would see him again but he is not a dynamo. Now, Anthony Hamilton is a beast and I would go see him whenver he is close by.
