- I'm J.Johnson aka "Jay Rags". I grew up listening to the records that were laying around our living room the morning after my moms use to have house parties back in the 70's. I am a part of the youth movement that brought this world House music and Hip-Hop. Back in my teens(in the late 80's) I was the typical breakdancing, partying, kid that liked to write rhymes. My love for House music though wouldn't allow me to get too far into the Hip-Hop scene back then. Now as an adult my hip-hop lyrics have changed and I have a home for my outlet in the world of Spoken Word. I'm really great at alot of things that I do part-time. By profession I'm in the IT field, but socially I run a website, do graphics for flyers, photo editing, Sound recording, party/event promoting, dj, Spoken Word artist, a writer, and more. I am a magnet for good people and have been known to inspire bad people.
I love House Music, spoken word/poetry, and live music in general. I am the founder of Blackbookscafe.com, creator/promoter of the Soul Fiesta party, the co-founder of Collective Minds, creator of Studio Sessions & Studio Sessions Live!, Underground Soul Series, and an all around magnet for good people :), and promoter of soulful things underground.
Blackbokscafe.com was a Balto/DC based website where you could go to see upcoming House, poetry,and open-mic events around Bmore/DC. It also had interviews & pics. Soul Fiesta, and then Soul Fiesta/SpiritualJourney, was a themed underground House Music party in Baltimore. It ran for nearly 4yrs & was to the local House scene what Mos Def, Common, or Talib Kweli is to the HipHop scene. Collective Minds is an organization made up of many of Balto/DC's top House producers, dj's,singers,promoters, and dancers. It is bigger than all of us now.(collectiveminds.org). Studio Sessons is my new House music movement, but Studio Sessions live is my next project to promote live & underground music of many genres(soul, neosoul, jazz, poetry, etc.).
