After pursuing a music degree at Howard University, Vanita Thompson accepted an invitation to work at Smack Music, Inc, a music production, management and music publishing company(MCA). While there she worked directly with international artists on Capital Records, RCA, Warner Brothers and Atlantic. She left Smack Music to become the first Director of Artist Development at Double XXposure, a NYC public relations firm. She and moved from there to work for Jackson Communications, Inc. (JOMA) the company owned by the Jackson Family. That company managed artists on Jive, RCA, Mercury and Motown. Vanita began to specialize in artist liaison projects and worked for several NYC law firms dealing with sample and cover clearances, copyright and royalty issues, unions, guilds and performance rights.
Vanita moved to St. Louis in 1999 and began a royalty recovery business. That business has recovered over $150,000 for songwriters signed to EMI, Sony and Universal. Currently she provides project management for Jus Bleezy Entertainment, promotes soul music concerts, manages soul music artist Wildmann, coordinates the International Soul Music Summit and the DJ Technology Retreat and Convention and runs large entertainment stages. Vanita has a Certificate in Audio Engineering with a focus on Live Sound. She belongs to ASCAP, NABFEME, NMA and participates actively in social fundraising for the St. Louis Affiliate of the Komen Foundation, the Arts and Education Council, United Way and the Lupus Foundation.
